Crocheted bag finally completed

Last week I showed you the two sides of a white cotton bag I was determined to finish -.

I am delighted to report that I managed to accomplish my objective 😊.

I shall show you 'roughly' how I did it.

The first step was to join the two halves. Sadly, as I am sure you've already noticed, I did not have the same colour cotton yarn. All I could find in a charity shop was a ball of 'bleached' cotton of similar thickness. I decided 'to make a design statement' and went for it. If it didn't look right I thought I could try dyeing it.

To join the two halves I used a method that involved making three chains picking the other side; making a slipped stitch and then continuing making a zig zag shape. You can see what I mean more clearly on this website.

If you look at the original design of the bag, you will see that I didn't use the picot design to join the two halves. I just couldn't understand how to join with a picot - if someone can help me with that for future reference, it would be great 😆

It didn't look too bad so I continued along the three edges. Then I finished the top edges with two chains and a slipped stitch as the photos below show. This made the bag top edges look tidier.

I changed the design of the original bag slightly by making a shoulder strap. To save time and effort 🙄 I decided on a filet crochet mesh. This was very simple as you can see below :

Every row involved making two trebles, two chains, one treble... repeat and finish the row with two trebles. This created four holes and looked neat.

Best of all it grew fast.

I remember making crocheted bags when I was young and then finding that the shoulder strap would stretch so much that I had to make a knot at the top ! So this bag looks as if it has a short strap, but I am just anticipating some stretch.

I then joined the other end of the shoulder strap to the bag using single crochet and hid the cut end of the cotton.

Although it is quite see-through, you can't see I've got a book, a hook/needle case and some yarn in there ... I am ready to learn a lace stitch that has been intriguing me for a while ...

Thank you to @crosheille for hosting and @crystalize for co-chairing and thank you for reading. Happy #needleworkmonday !

Oh my god! So beautifully done!! Finishing a project is always means celebration, cheers*👏👏👏

That turned out really nice, great choice on the shoulder strap pattern.

Lovely job @cryptocariad. Well done for getting another project finished! 😁

Thank you @gillianpearce. It's a good feeling of accomplishment and now off to pick another unfinished project 😊

Sounds good @cryptocariad. If you keep going I may be inspired to finish some of mine! 😂,

thanks @cryptocariad for your upvote and congratulations to finishing your crocheted bag

Thank you @amigurumi. I admire your work : it takes a lot of patience to create those characters !

This looks really nice, I can picture using it to carry a book to the beach. It gives that kind of feeling when I look at it 💚

Thank you @zen-art... let's hope for some continuous good weather - it's gorgeous at the moment with proper blue skies !

Hola @cryptocariad.

It turned out lovely!! I don’t think the different color yarn looks bad at all, it truly is your design statement. I like the design of the strap too! Thanks for sharing the finished project with us!!

Thank you @crosheille... It feels great to actually (finally) finish that project and be able to move on to a different one 🌺

I bet it does!! 😄

It is a very sweet looking bag @cryptocariad! I especially liked how you join the 2 pieces together and the strap, using a slightly different shade, it gives your bag a unique character (i have a thing for different but similar shade colors) 👜 Thank you for sharing your finished project! 🌷

Thank you @marblely. I enjoyed the process and it was good to just make use of what I had available (otherwise I would have had to wait to get that particular ecru colour) 🌺

Very satisfying to get something finished. Filet crochet for the strap was a good idea. When will you use it most?

Thank you @shanibeer... definitely when it's not raining :)
I tend to carry things to do / make for when I'm waiting in the car, but unfortunately I also tend to 'over stuff' bags and it gets really messy. This bag is the right size for only a few choice items 🌺

I was thinking about that yesterday when I was packing to come home: I need a selection of smaller project bags, just big enough to hold one thing I'm working on that I can pick up quickly when I'm running out the door.

You know, I like it with the two different shades of white! What a great bag that is easy to use and easy to wash. Love it!! Happy #NeedleworkMonday to you!

Thank you @crystalize... Indeed washing it should be easy - I wonder whether or not it will stretch a bit then 🌺
