#NeedleworkMonday... Custom Jeans Upcycle Part 1

Last fall I was gifted a pair of decked out jeans. I absolutely Love them!

I have had many requests to make some...so...here is my first try!!

Start with a pair of jeans. This is perfect if you have a pair of jeans you Love but they are too small! It can be done with a pair that fit too!

The entire side seam needs to be cut out of both sides, cut the waistband as well. I was careful cutting near where the front pockets are sewn into the seam as I intend to sew them back into the new seam.

I have decided to decorate this pair with the Grateful Dead Dancing Bears down each leg. I drew up some templates, and cut them out of colorful corduroy.

Here are the pieces ready to be assembled. I chose to use one piece of stretchy corduroy behind the bears for comfort of fit through the waist and hips. Here is the general idea.

Well...that's as far as I got today...time to get my hands dirty in the garden!

Watch for Part 2...coming soon!!

Very original! Looking forward to seeing Part 2. 😀

Thanks! My hubby is working away from the homestead most of this month... Extra time for projects in the evening...or morning... Or anytime!!

Lucky girl! It's great having all the time you want for doing your own things! I'm so happy to be retired and livin' the easy life at last. 😀

Fun project!

Thanks! It's time to make some custom orders! There is a wedding party to fund!!

Are you getting married? Congrats if you are.

Thanks!

We are, but we already have...lol...

His dad passed last fall and we were able to have a quick ceremony including him before, he was our last parent.
But we are hosting quite the shindig this fall and keeping our original plans.

Well i am glad you got to celebrate with your dad before he passed and I hope you have an awesome shindig this fall.

I made jeans like these back in the 70's..... LOL

Also made jean skirts....

Fun!!! Do you have any pics? I would love to see.
I have a skirt and a vest waiting in line. Working up to my hubby's jacket for our wedding festivities.

Alas, none! Very few photos from that time...

Digital photography has changed our lives! I hope the images in your memories bring you smiles!

Yeah I'd like to see them when they are finished. Also great if you have a pair of jeans that don't quite fit-I think I have a few of those-but I don't have the patience. I commend you on this time consuming project.

Watch for Part two, I'll tag those of you who are interested.

Would love to be tagged in the part 2 post as well ♡

Looking forward to seeing the finished product!

I made progress today... Perhaps this will be more than 2 parts!

My zig zag on my machine is giving me woes, they have become a hand project, much more enjoyable that way! Handwork is meditation time!

I hope your world is safe and stable and full of love. I haven't had much time online lately, I have catching up to do.

Hugs to you and your crew.

I need to post a couple of updates. On my way to do those now. I am feeling a little weary. The stress is dreadful.

I will keep an eye out for them. You all are tucked in my family's hearts.

Looking great so far! What a cool idea and I'm looking forward to your next post. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you.

I am always happy to get around to posting for #needleworkmonday. I am glad you like my creations.

I am not a Grateful Dead fan, but I love the pants! I can't wait to see part 2! I think I could make something like this and would enjoy wearing them. Interested to see how you get them to fit after adding a few inches of fabric on each side!

This pair is not being made to a particular size, it will be what it will be.
I would be happy to cover the info on how to aim for the right fit though.

Thanks for stopping by!

Ah man I wanted to read more now lol!!! 😄 Guess I have to wait for part 2!!! I am so looking forward to seeing how you do this, it is very interesting!! Thanks for sharing part 1 this week!!!

Yaay! I am happy you are wanting more.

Soon! I promise!

Yay!!!! I’ll be there!!! 😄😉

I so need the whole tutorial, because I have many jeans (and skirts) that are too small (sniff) And I am not very creative and experienced with sewing. I am curious how you will make the waistband. By the way I loooovve corduroy. <3

I will be sure to include more descriptions as I go if you are interested in trying something similar.

I will try to take pic of my corduroy stash...I also love corduroy! Last fall I was gifted the stash of an older patchworkin' hippy woman... It is a full pallette of colors for my art.

Wow this is a lovely gift! I am currently debating with myself if I should buy a very bright pink corduroy for a skirt. But I am still unsure, because the last corduroy skirt I made is sticking on my tights, not so nice....

If you love the pink corduroy then do it...haha. Its probably the cut of the skirt causing the issue not the fabric.

I like the bears - very colourful! Look forward to seeing the finished item.

The bears were fun to make! I am detailing them now... Much more to share... Soon!
