Quick Opinion -- $495 BBB Luxury SneakerssteemCreated with Sketch.

in #nba7 years ago

While it's warranted there be a criticism of the predatory marketing of $495 luxury sneakers to struggling communities, something tells me that had a major corporation (such as Nike, Adidas and Under Armour) with strong financial ties to corporate and web-based media outlets (such as ESPN, FOX Sports and Bleacher Report) pushing a narrative of greed and ignorance profited from this venture, many would not have been made to be so triggered.

Sort:

They can market that crap to whomever they please. It's up to individuals whether they'll buy or not; that's personal freedom and personal responsibility right there. They're responsible for their own financial decisions.

So do you believe predatory marketing to be a myth, such as the former marketing of cigarettes to adolescents? Good marketing preys on people's psyche.

Individuals are ultimately responsible for their actions, which includes the acceptance or rejection of marketing ploys. Those who opt to accept an idea for whatever reason are ultimately responsible for the fallout in relation to themselves. If we take that away, then we have the government/corporations/lobby groups telling us (with no free-will of our own) what is safe to accept and what is not. If Billy who needs those shit shoes but makes $5/hr decides to stop paying his child support so he has the cash all nice and legit, then he clearly decided where his priorities lie.

I applaud the efforts of him to sell his own shoe. I predict that because he is the first to do something like this, he will make mistakes, and that may include this price point. This may be a successful strategy for the second person to try this. The second person will be able to see any mistakes and not repeat them.
