NBA Asah Pebasket Bertalenta in Israel and Palestine
Erusalem - The NBA will develop basketball in Israel and Palestine in the hope of attracting more foreign players to the league. As a concrete step, the NBA delegation will visit the NBA this week.The NBA delegation led by Commissioner Adam Silver was already in Israel. They came as part of the Basketball Without Borders program, which is a training program for talented basketball players from all over the world.
"It's an awareness that to develop as an elite player at a relatively young age, you have to start competing against other elite players.You also need the benefits of the best coaching," Silver said as reported by the NBA's official website on Monday (14/08/2017) .
A total of 60 U-17 teenagers from across Europe will participate in Basketball Without Borders in Israel. A total of 20 of them are female players.
They will have the opportunity to be coached by players and former NBA players and coaches, among them Israel's Omri Casspi from Golden State Warriors, Sam Dekker (LA Clippers), Jerryd Bayless (Philedelphiaisers 76ers), Normall Powell (Toronto Raptors) and Hall of Famer David Robinson .
The NBA visit to Israel is at the same time promoting peace. There will also be a series of clinics and workshops for local youth that will include Israeli Jews, Muslim players, Nasrations and Druze minonnel. Palestinian children from the West Bank will also participate.
