Dorylus fulvus - a rare species of ants

in #naturephotography6 years ago

Hey everyone,

These odd, orange ants are named Dorylus fulvus, and they are a rare kind of ants!

The species lives in Africa and also reaches up to Israel.
The Dorylus fulvus forms huge underground colonies of thousands of specimen, with only one queen and no males at all, those are born only during mating season.

The species migrates often, and when it does it will consume everything in its path, eventually forming a new colony in a protected place.
Should the migrating colony encounter a bee hive, they would enter it and kill ALL the bees and eat everything, as they are too small to be stung.
The queen is huge(!), biggest in the ants kingdom, she is rare and has no wings or eyes.

Hope you like them :)
