The Grand Canyon

Sometimes listed as one of the seven natural wonders of the world the Grand Canyon is an amazing place to visit. It's hard to believe that something of this size and beauty could be formed naturally.

	Walking up to the canyon you eventually see things starting to open up ahead of you. Even away from the Canyon itself the park is a great place to visit with hiking trails, some paved and some not, through the high elevation desert.
	As you continue up the path it's almost as if the view explodes in front of you at the last minute. You go from seeing the scrub pines to the breath taking view of the canyon.
	These photos are from the south rim of the Canyon. Along the hiking trails you can walk for hours. The Grand Canyon is so large that even walking for hours I realized I was very often taking pictures of the same features in the canyon.
	Sunset has it's own special beauty as the shadows grow darker, the bottom of the canyon gradually fades away into darkness. Just make sure you have a flashlight, the hiking trails have no lights.

For me, looking at the Grand Canyon was just as mesmerizing as sitting and watching the ocean. You know it really doesn't change before your eyes but you keep noticing different things in the scenery that makes it feel like it's changing. The size alone makes it seem unreal. There is one portion of the canyon that has a shear rock face straight down for a half-mile.
