The magnificent world of Mushrooms

in #nature6 years ago

I know deep down that we are all amazed by funghi.

Did you know that we as humans are very closely related to funghi?

Science has historically grouped fungi together with plants, though they have much more in common with animals than our leafy green friends. Both humans and fungi are eukaryotes, organisms whose cells carry complex structures inside their membranes, including a nucleus.

Not only are we close relatives to the common mushroom, they play a vital role in a well balanced loop called the circle of life.
When an organic material dies, be it a plant, tree or animal, funghi is usually the first one to appear starting the break down process by absorbing nutrients for growth and reproduction and then in turn returning back to the earth from which they came these rich valuable minerals to condition and enrich the soil for the next life to bloom.

Amazing right??!

Mushrooms have become an icon of the fantasy realm for their out of this world appearence and psychadellic properties...I base a lot of my artworks upon them for the magical image that they entail making wonderful recycled nightlights and beautiful pieces of natural art.

I am also a vegetarian so I gain most of my protein, iron and essential vitamins from them.

But just remember, all mushrooms are edible, some only onc_MG_4136.JPGe in a lifetime!
