New animal species discovered in Belgium
The Belgian University of Ghent announced today that they had discovered a new animal species: Abursanema quadrilineatum
It was not something they had found in a salt marsh, or in a dessert, but in a nearby nature reserve.
The organism in itself is a nematode (microscopic worrm) This worm apparently lives on mushrooms which can be found on decaying wood.
(Note: this is a picture of another nematode C. elegans, not of the newly discovered one, but it gives you something of an idea as to what it is.
If new organisms can still be found right in our backyards, imagine how many undiscovered species of plants, animals fungi and bacteria there are still in this world.
