A stunning waterfall in the middle of Madrid mountain range: "La cascada del purgatorio"

On April the 1st 2017, I went hiking with some friends to a great waterfall placed in the middle of Madrid mountain range which is named: "La cascada del Purgatorio"

Keeping the distance with the greatest waterfalls on earth, this is a marvelous place where you can go hiking and spend a good day admiring the stunning beauty of the landscape.

The waterfall is placed in the header of Lozoya valley , in Guadarrama mountain range near a village named Rascafria (Madrid).
If you want to go hiking and enjoy the beautiful lanscape surrounding the waterfall, you can prepare a map of the region, some water, some food, wear comfortable clothes and you will be ready for it!

In order to organize a great path until you reach the waterfalls, you will be able to enjoy a monastery named "Monasterio El Paular" which was the starting point of our path.

Afterwards, once you have crossed the road which is going to Rascafria (take care here because cars are coming with low visibility), you will walk for less than a kilometer to reach a water dam named "Las Presillas". This place is a recreative place for summer when the water coming from the upside of the mountain is kept there (wooden gates are closed) and people could enjoy of a refresingh bath!

To continue with the path, we walked a few kilometers more enjoying the beautiful surroundings and enjoying the river which was crossed through the bridge in our way to the waterfalls.

The last part of our way was getting a little more difficult, the paths are going trough the base of the mountains and the more we were getting closer to the fall the more quantity of rocks we found in the the way. SO if you ever come take care to bring the appropriate sneakers or hiking boots in order no to fall!!

And...in the end we reach the place!!, the waterfall "La Cascada del Purgatorio" an amazing waterfall in the middle of Spain. We kept our eyes fixed staring at the waterfall and listening to the water noise falling. We couldn't stop us from taking some pictures to secure the moment.

Once you are at the waterfall if you want to admire another waterfall which is behind the main one, you willhave to climb a little bit through the rocks. I strongly recommend to do that, because the other waterfall is really beautiful, but you will have to know that there is some danger of falling and its not recommended for children.
