Arbutus
An unusual fruit
Although they are unusual to be found on our tables, the arbutus fruits are worth to be re-discovered.
The arbutus, is a native plant from Mediterranean countries like Italy.
The fruits are small reddish berries with a pleasant sweet taste. This plant as you can see it's a beautiful ornamental bush, but it owns also important healing properties.

Therapeutic uses
In particular, inside the leaves there is a high concentration of tannins, polyphenols responsible for the antiseptic action on the organism.
The fruits bring a considerable amount of vitamin E, that has antioxidant effect, which counteract the cellular aging.

The arbutus is a popular natural remedy, known for its anti-diarrheal ability, as well as for the anti-spasmodic and diuretic action. It also has a considerable disinfectant properties, so it can be useful to relieve some inflammatory conditions.

Contraindications
The consumption of these particular fruits, however, contains contraindications due to the high concentration of alkaloids. Due the possible effects on the digestive tract, it is always better to avoid an excessive intake.
