Animal Facts - Warthogs
So on our little game drive on the honeymoon I found out a few interesting facts about the warthog.
Do you know why they are called warthogs? Well simply put it is because they have warts on their faces. The warts are also an indication as to who is a male and who is female. Female wart hogs only have 2 sets of warts and males have 4.

The warthog is also known as the praying pig as it goes down on it's knees whenever it feeds. It is a really long prayer.
Another interesting fact was the reason why they lift their tails to the sky when they cross the road. Warthogs can't lift their heads so only the warthog at the front of the group can see where he is going. So in order to lead the others safely across the road he lifts his tail so the others can follow his tail. Each warthog does the same for the others.
Did you know that although warthogs are barrow creatures they can't dig a hole... This is where another interesting fact comes in. Warthogs, ant eaters and hedgehogs share their homes (they have timeshare). See ant eaters and hedgehogs are nocturnal meaning they only come out at night and sleep during the day. When they leave to go eat and do their stuff, warthogs take over the holes and sleep for the night.
Looks like its hakuna matata for the warthog after all.

Thats really interesting! They look like lovely creatures, I hope one day I get the chance to visit Africa, and see them running about in the wild. Thanks for sharing!
They are really cute, especially the babies. Number 1 rule is to appreciate from a safe place. They can be dangerous when feeling threatened.
I would love to ride them into battle :D
Haha I'm afraid that they might be a tad small to do that... maybe if you were the size of baby groot... Actually I'd pay to see baby groot ride a warthog into battle
Wild bore and hogs are dangerous animals. But are still fascinating creatures. Very primitive looking
Very true. Although, I came up close to the warthogs and if it weren't for the tusks they wouldn't be very intimidating. It looks like they tip toe when they walk. it's ridiculously cute
interesting facts, thanks for sharing! yes, a warthog always reminds me of the lion king
You are not alone. What is even worse is that I grew up when Timon and Pumbaa was a series... Ah good childhood
i've seen it as well, happy memories indeed :)
