Lunar Eclipse in Thailand and our Belief
A few nights ago, I believe that most of you may probably see the “lunar eclipse” in your area. I myself also admired the wonderful super blue blood moon in front of my house.
In Thailand, we believe that it’s a giant who is called “Rahu” that makes the moon looks like this or it seems that the Rahu is going to eat the moon. In the Northeast of Thailand, they believe that it’s a frog that eats the moon.
We, therefore, have to help the moon by hitting the bamboo sticks or doing something that have loud noise, like fireworks, to make the Rahu be afraid and release the moon as soon as possible.
Most people tried their best to help their beloved moon.
In the meantime, we also believe, if we hit the trees in our garden, the trees will give us a lot of fruits after that….
I think each country has own belief that may probably be different from this….. I would be more than glad if you share your belief about the “Lunar Eclipse” with me here! 😉
p.s. The photos are from me, from my brother and from my sister. ;))

You are very kind to me! I always much appreciate for your nice visit to my blog. Please accept my sincere thanks for your great support to my works! ;)
Your post really shows how people can connect with nature in so many ways. Everyone shares the same Sun and Moon, and we all connect in some way. It's so interesting to read about these traditions in your area. And to have all 3 of you - you, your brother, and your sister - take photos of the lunar eclipse! It's nice that people work to help their beloved Moon! :D
I'm glad to make this the first post in a new project of mine, the Steemit @natureclub. It's going to develop slowly, but it will let me resteem posts where people are connecting with nature. It will start with your post and one of the most basic of nature connections - the Moon! Thanks, @tangmo! :D
Thanks so much for your nice comment and I'm very glad to hear that you have a new project for nature lover, like me....and I'm happy that you considered to start it with my post! It's my great honor. ;)
Regarding to the lunar eclipse, it's good to know that you like the idea that people work to help their beloved Moon... Yes, it's great that everyone shares the same Sun and Moon!
Many thanks again for your kindness and great support to my works! ;)
Happy Valentine's Day! ;))
Nice to see so many people from your family contribute to this post. Its really amazing that everyone around the world can see the same blood moon. It reminds us how small the world really is and how important it is to love one another.
Thanks so much for your nice comment! Yes, it's great that everyone around the world can see the same blood moon.... Yeah! We would have to love one another, as you said! ;)
That is great. Nice photos of the moon. It was very cool, wasn't it? I was lucky to wake up at 4:00 AM to see it. Took a couple of photos too.
I like all the stories about it that you tell, and ways the folks of your country have come up with to explain it and and 'deal' with it. That is neat.
I can't think of any stories from this corner of the world regarding the eclipse moon. More close to home....I had cold feet standing outside at 4:10 AM to take pictures, and I almost tripped over the cat in the pitch dark coming back in afterwards. And I couldn't get back to sleep for awhile after climbing back into my warm bed. Those aren't half as interesting as your stories though.
I like the banging of poles to scare off Rahu or the giant frog from eating the moon. That is so cool. And the fruit trees too. Might have to try that (easier, there are more fruit trees than eclipse moons).
Thanks for sharing some more culture from your land, and the photos of the blue red moon. Have a nice night GFF, dd
Thanks so much for your nice comment and sharing your experience on the eclipse moon with me! Oh! It's really early morning that you can see it! Ha ha! I can imagine what's going on at your side and your cat was lucky that you did not step on him! It would be great if you would share your photos of the full blue blood moon with me! ;))
For me, I saw it at approx. 07.00 - 09.30 p.m. So, I think it's a good time for me.... not too early in the morning and not too late at night!
I'm glad to know that you found the stories about the Rahu and giant frog interesting. I like the idea about the fruit trees, too! I would like this fruit belief comes true....so, I'll have a lot of fruits in my future garden.... ;D
Beautiful shots my friend! I saw the moon that night too. Absolutely gorgeous! 😍
I don't know of any folkore we Filipinos have about the eclipse but there are a lot of tales about the moon. It is believed that there's a kuneho or a rabbit in the moon. When I was in 2nd grade, our class discussed the tale of "Ang Kuneho Sa Buwan"
Ang - The
Kuneho - Rabbit
Sa - On (but it can stand for a lot of other linking verbs)
Buwan - Moon
There's also a tale about two lovers who then became the moon and the sun. 🌙☉
This is my shot of the moon that night. It really was so beautiful although my camera could not capture the entirety of that beauty.
Thanks so much for your nice comment and sharing your stories about the moon and giving me beautiful photo of the moon. Really great shot!
In Thailand, we have a story about the rabbit in the moon, too! Oh! It's great that you translate your language into English for me! I have learned a lot from you. Many thanks! ;))
The tale about two lovers would be interesting that I would love to know more.... ;))
The first photo looks like mars but we know it's the moon, the story about rahu were too much interesting i mean i like to know more about cultures. Regards
Thanks so much for your nice comment! Ha ha! Yes, it's the moon, even though, it looks like mars! I'm glad to hear that you found the story about rahu interesting! ;)

What beautiful images you have taken of the eclipse of the moon, dear friend @tangmo, congratulations.
In our Guarani culture, we also have a similar tradition, when there was eclipse deluna that a monster of the Guarani mythology that wanted to eat the moon, the natives, sang and made a lot of noise looking at the sky so that the monster would let go of the moon and return the light to the earth, very similar to your traditions.
thank you very much for sharing your traditions
I wish you a great day
Thanks so much for your nice comment and sharing your tradition with me! Oh! It's very similar to us indeed! I'm really glad to know that! ;)
Have a wonderful day, too! ;))
Wow! The first photo truly is a super blood moon. It was so cloudy and hazy here that I wasn't able to see much of anything so, I sure am happy to see your photos. Your belief is very interesting. And may the trees in all of your gardens give you and your people an abundance of fruits. : )
Thanks so much for your nice comment! Oh! It's unfortunate that you didn't see the super blood moon that night! I'm happy to hear that you found our belief interesting. Many thanks for your kind wish for me and our people, my dear sis! Yes, I would love to have a large garden with abundance of fruits in very near future! ;)
I saw the Supermoon on December 3, 2017 and did a post on it but it wasn't a blood moon. I was looking through my photos today and I forgot that I do have photos of this moon, but it was in the early morning because I couldn't see it the night before and it wasn't red. : )
Oh! It's really great that you can take photos of the Supermoon.... I saw the blood moon that night, but there were a lot of black clouds around my area. The first photo came from my sister, in Phatthalung. ;D
