First mission with new camera - Great Horned Owl pictures. Here they are :) We always find the owls out at dusk so light is never good.

Tonight owl viewing was successful for great horned owls but we missed barn owls. There are two barn owls that hang out in a shaggy eucalyptus tree. The tree kind of has three trunks and the peeling bark plus lots of small branches coming off the main trunks make it hard to see through to the tree. We have walked up to the tree several times and been surprised by the pair of barn owls flying out right over our head. So tonight we carefully and quietly approached the tree. We really want a photo of the barn owls in the tree! We made it all the way under the tree. Even walked around to the back side of tree. No owls. We took photos of some deer in the clearing below the tree then gave up and started to walk away. And... of course the two owls flew out over our heads.

Dublin, California. October 2018. All photos original.

Absolutely wonderful Owl photos.
Awesome. I rarely get to see them in the daytime and I have only gotten one good photo.
@steven-patrick 🤗

thanks @annephilbrick new camera is making me look good it was twilight but it pulls in a lot of light

Nice shots ... the first one looks like the owl could be an fixture on top of a barn.

thanks @rentmoney Yes almost looks like a fake owl lol.

Beautiful photos, it's very useful a good zoom !

thanks @heroldius a good zoom is so fun :)

Wow! I have never seen one posed on the rooftop like that! I guess I just have too many trees and when they're here they're well camouflaged like your barn owls are. I seldom ever see them unless they're startled and swoop out and cross the road or the river. But they do make their presence known even when I can't see them! Wonderful photos.

thanks @melinda010100 the rooftop pictures look almost like the owl statue you buy to scare off pigeons

Hahaha! You are right, that is exactly what they look like!

Nice captures. Glad you are enjoying your new camera. Lucky to capture an owl as i never see one but know there is one around.

thanks @redheadpei We hear several calling to each other. I think its one of those things that we see one so there are probably lots around.
