RE: Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos. (Photos and Video)

in #nature7 years ago

We get these beauties up here on the Sunshine Coast as well as the rare Glossy Black Cockatoo. We have a old bush lore saying if you see the Black Cockatoos flying North it's going to rain and the number you see is the days of rain. We've had an extremely dry year and last week I saw 13 Black Cockatoos flying North. Pouring rain today. Maybe a little truth in the story.

Sort:

Yes the red tail glossy black, my father - in - law is the glossy black specialist here on the coast.
Cheers.

Don't see them often. Your father-in-law would be an interesting bloke to have a yarn with.

Yes he is. Usually spotted at the environment center at Noosa, or greening noosa, or weeding a strangers front yard. There is a children book about glossy blacks that he is illustrated in. He also teaches environment studies with the local schools in the area. Very interesting indeed.
Cheers

Interesting bit of folklore. I'm on the north coast of Tas so if the cockies flew north they be heading out to see. Not that that has prevented it raining down here :-)
