Study: "Ice Age" hits Britain
A recent study of a "mini-ice age" that could hit Britain in two decades will lead to the freezing of the country's most important rivers.
The study, conducted by Russian and British researchers, suggests that the effect is caused by the decline of magnetic waves of the sun, according to Sky News.
When the sun's magnetic activity recedes, it means cold periods on Earth, and several accidents have occurred in centuries.
The magnetic wave begins when the sun emits strong impulses at the height of its activity, generating electrical charges hitting the planet.
If this results in a sharp drop in temperature, starting in 2021, the winter of 2030 may witness the freezing of the Great Thames in Britain.
Scientists predict a rapid decline of magnetic waves from 2021, and it will take more than 30 years before returning to normal.
Professor Valentina Zakharova, a professor at the University of Northumbia, said the accuracy of the forecast system was 97 percent and hoped the phenomenon would help contain global warming.
