Champei Flowers

in #nature10 years ago (edited)

Champei is a Khmer name for Plumeria or Frangipani and also one of my favorite flower. It’s also among Khmer people, popular fragrant flowers in Cambodia. There are many various plumeria species around the world. But for Khmer people they use this flower for a lot of different occasion.
Champei flower gives people a pleasant looks and it smell very sweet.
Champei flower also can be use for decorated on the long black hair of Apsara dancers... or for normal Khmer women they also use it by putting champei flower in their hair just for the smell or looks.
White Champei is selected to be wore as jewelry for Khmer traditional lady dancers or in almost form of dancing, including Apsara Dance, Robam Tep Monorum, Robam Chun Por (Benediction dance), and many more. The dancers would wear one white champei flower at the upper of their right ear, and wear several flowers on their long black hair lying on their back.
Champei is among the Cambodian people very popular names selected for naming daughters in Khmer family. Champei is a word used for comparing to a beautiful Khmer lady in Khmer novels, poems, and songs.
