14h Hike With Wild Deers, Unusual Rocks And Mystic Lakes
My all-time favorite trip was the hike to Mt. Krn. This peak played a strategic role in the World War I on the Isonzo front. Strolling through these hills and mountains is like stepping into the history - trenches and bunkers are still here to see! In fact, the path to the top of the Mountain Krn is a military path or "muletiera" in Italian (the mule path - called so because all heavy load was transported to the top with mules).
It was a long way for me, being used to maximum 6-hour walks but I was determined to conquer it. We started off in a small town in the Soča Valley at the altitude of 189 m (620 ft) and our goal was the peak at 2244m (7362 ft). Soon after the start, we met this beauty along the way.
As we were rising, nature was getting more and more beautiful, as expected: limestone rocks covered in moss and other Alpine greenery...
The fog didn't bother us much. It made one of the lakes along the way look really mystic and the green ferns seemed even more vivid.
This huge boulder (over 4m high) was split in two as if it was cut in half with the chainsaw. Amazing what nature can do!
When we reached the top after about 9 hours with nearly zero stops along the way (except for taking photos), the fog started to disappear and we were able to see another lake below and the mountain range nearby.
The descent was quicker and we were back in the valley before evening.
There is so much more to see but I chose only the top images. I hope you enjoyed the post and I'd like to hear from fellow hikers as well!
Love that dear. Last 2 pictures are breath taking.
Thanks @codebraker, imagine seeing it live!
Wow so cool, looks like an amazing journey!
Thanks. I follow your blog now, you have some good stuff there. The Tales from Svalbard are epic! I'll take time to read them all.
Cool! Thanks for taking the time to check out my blog and some older posts. Yes, the Svalbard trip was epic for sure! I should have some upcoming posts from Geiranger and Lofoten Norway as well as touring in Ireland.
I'm following your blog as well now :)
What an adventurous place... thanks @penticton for sharing this amazing post.
Wow, I've rarely seen such amazing landscapes. I'd say my favourite photograph would be the one of the split rock. It has this eerie vibe to it and I can't help but to wonder how it was to encounter this scene in real life. Amazing post, thanks for sharing
great shots mate
That deer is so cute :) looks like such a beautiful place.
Deers are quite common around there but because of their shy nature it's not so easy to get them on a camera. I guess I was lucky with this one.
Wow! This Still Photography Is Top Notch!
Thank you for introducing this beautiful place to me. That is an amazing accomplishment to go from 620 feet to 7,362 feet in one day!
My legs were destroyed but it was worth it! Happy that you discovered something new, @bbrewer.
Wow, that looks like a gorgeous place to hike at. Great shots, by the way!
Oh yes, you have so many routes of different difficulty levels and all of them are marked so you can navigate quite easily without any tour guide.
That's awesome! I wish I had somewhere like that nearby to hike at. I'm smack dab in the midwest, so it's hard to find nice places like this.
Great post I gave you a follow !:)
