After Hurricanes Isaac and Ida, some LaPlace residents say they're done waiting for levee

Officials promise that a $760 million planned levee on Lake Pontchartrain’s western shore will prevent more flooding, but some LaPlace residents don’t want to wait for its scheduled spring 2024 completion date.

Interesting article about the effects that Hurricane Ida had on the people of one Louisiana town that was especially hard hit. That's the problem with relying on government to protect you, sometimes they don't deliver on their promises. Why these people weren't behind an effective levee is beyond me, Hurricane Ida was bad, but not a once in a lifetime storm. I don't blame the people that are leaving the area for good, it's so hard to rebuild time and time again.

Sad to see the destruction, the time to recover is devastating

Hurricanes are so frequent in this part of the world, there seems to be no reason to purchase a house where there is no protection. It's sad to see, honestly.

I agree, they're a tough people, but there are limits.

And with home prices at all time highs, maybe renting is the way to go, let someone else take the hurricane risk.....
