Rare Giant Luna Moth the Size of a Bird Sighting in ChinasteemCreated with Sketch.

I would like to share an unusually rare sighting of the Luna moth in Getu China. This moth is native to the northern states of USA, southern Canada and is reported in all of the eastern states of the USA.

Apologies for the low quality photos I only had my phone on hand at the time. The Luna moth has an extremely short lifespan of 1 week in it's adult form. It has no mouth or digestive tract after it hatches into a moth and has to find a mate quickly before it passes away.

At first I thought this was a normal bug/creature of Getu but even the locals had never seen one before. After some internet trawling I can't find any information of the Luna moth being sighted outside of the USA or Canada besides a single sighting in Devon, England.

This one is particularly rare because it managed to make it's way to the mainland Guizhou province of China. This is over 14,000 kilometres or 8000 miles away from it's native homeland! Was it just a single moth or perhaps the Luna moth also breeds in China?

To finish we have a beautiful pout from my good friend Dave with the first and probably last Luna moth we will ever see.

@ninjalord, you are showing some of the beauty of God's creation. Luna moth? I would just say a butterfly. But it's all nice buddy. Keep on doing what you do..
