Dracaena draco, the Canary Islands dragon tree.
Good afternoon everyone,
Dracaena draco is a tree plant which belongs to the family of Dracaneaceae (or Liliaceae).
It is native to the Canary Islands, of which it is an emblematic species, hence the commonly used nickname of Canary Islands dragon tree.
It was also formerly called, at least locally, the dragon's blood tree, because when the dracaena draco is injured, a reddish resin flows from its wounds.
In its natural environment the dracaena draco can reach a height of 20 m in adulthood. It is made up of a divided trunk.
The dracaena draco blooms in the wild as soon as it reaches the age of 15, and this rather insignificant white flowering gives rise during the summer to fruiting.
Its fruits are small, inedible red berries.
Have a nice day.
