Grey heron fact file
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
A large gray heron is usually with white and black accents, a white crown with black plumes, black belly, and white thighs. Its weight is about 2.2–4.6 lb.
DISTRIBUTION:
It is found in many sub-continents including Europe, Africa, Asia, East Indies islands.
HABITAT:
These are usually found in and around shallow water, generally along watercourses and shorelines, and usually in locations having roost trees nearby.
BEHAVIOR:
it normally stands or walks slowly where shallow water is found. It lives in nearby roost trees.
FEEDING ECOLOGY AND DIET:
It usually hunts alone mostly fish and small mammals and amphibians.It feeds mainly on fish. It stands still in water and when fish comes near, it rapidly strikes and get it into its beak.
