BRINGING PEOPLE TOGETHER TO MAKE POSITIVE CHANGE !!
This is the challenge I propose today.
There's nothing to gain but a better world.
Worldwide reliance on disposable plastic packaging is overwhelming our planet.
By 2050, the oceans will contain more plastic than fish by weigh.
Plastic never goes away.
Plastic is a durable material made to last forever, yet 33 % of it is used once and then discarded.
Plastic affects human health.
» Two broad classes of plastic-related chemicals are of critical concern for human health—bisphenol-A or BPA, and additives used in the synthesis of plastics, which are known as phthalates. Source: "Perils of Plastics: Risks to Human Health and the Environment," Arizona State University Biodesign Institute 18 March 2010
Chemicals in plastic which give them their rigidity or flexibility (flame retardants, bisphenols, phthalates and other harmful chemicals) are oily poisons that repel water and stick to petroleum-based objects like plastic debris. So, the toxic chemicals that leach out of plastics can accumulate on other plastics. This is a serious concern with increasing amounts of plastic debris accumulating in the world's oceans. https://plasticpollutioncoalition.zendesk.com/
So let's make a change today, and every day.
Luckily, there are simple steps you can take that will dramatically decrease the amount of plastic waste you generate.
Just say no to straws : https://www.bambuhome.com/products/bamboo-straws
Use reusable produce http://www.reuseit.com/reusable-shopping-bags.htm
Buy boxes, not bottles
Buy from bulk bins
Use reusable bottles and cups
Don't use plasticware
Use cloth diapers
Don't buy juice
