The Common Brown butterfly [Three Macro Photos]
This is the Common Brown butterfly, Heteronympha merope . It's a shame it has such an unimaginative common name. They are are quite active in the backyard at the moment although difficult to approach, so I was quite happy to get the close up shot (first photo).

The butterfly above is a male. The next shot is an older one. It's not the best but is is the only photo I have of a male with its wings open. I'll include it here just so you can see what it looks like.
