Sandhill Crane with a Baby!

in #nature6 years ago

Watch this video I got of a Sandhill Crane with a 3 day old baby. The baby sits on top of the mother for protection. The babies are totally dependent on their parents for about 7-9 months. This nest was in the middle of a pond right next to a busy road. The Cranes do walk across the road and the cars have to watch out for them. If you are driving in Florida, you do have to pay attention so you don't hit wildlife that are all around. You might hit an alligator. LOL

Very cool - surprising the babes need 7-9 months of dependence - but humans need even more - years actually.

Wow how cool,How far away were you from the action? did you have to zoom alot?

I think I was about 30 to 40 feet. Yes, had to zoom in a lot. Sand hill Cranes don’t care if people are around.
