KALER'S POND // Walk with me
Kaler's Pond in Center Moriches LI, NY. consists of thirteen acres, donated decades ago by the Kaler family to the Town of Brookhaven.
The park consists of a mostly regrowth oak woods with a narrow looped trail and nice size pond who's outflow once ran a Grist mill.
The south shore of Long Island has many small creeks that flow south into the saltwater bays. Some of these creeks were dammed, (earthen dams) by the early settlers to form freshwater ponds. Mills were then constructed at the pond's outflows.
Roads were built on top of the earthen dams. In this case Route 25 or Montauk Highway. First early road that runs from Brooklyn to Montauk Point.
Below pictures shows South side of Route 25 looking at the tidal water of the creek. This one is called Terrell River., but miss named river, since it is so small.
In 2015 the Town spent 1/2 million on improvements. These took the form of removing vegetative overgrowth that almost blocked the view of the pond from the road, installed handicap-accessible paths, storm drainage upgrades, restrooms, playground area and a memorial park for victims of Flight TWA #800.
The Moriches Bay Audubon Society also has a small barn like building were the woods and trail begins.
Enough talking, here's some pictures.
Thanks for stopping by. Any questions about Kaler's be free to ask.

Certainly @manorvillemike, the beautiful images say more than thousands of words and the beautiful natural landscapes have a very particular way and easy to communicate with us ... Two of your images reminded me of the "Laguna VIctoria" in Mèrida - Venezuela.
Cool, beauty can be in many places.
