JAMESPORT CEMETERY, LI,NY
Jamesport area was founded in the early 1690's. The Cemetery on Main Street goes back that far. I have found little information on the cemetery it'self on the internet.
What attracted me to this cemetery are all the Prickly Pear Cactus growing there. Don't see to many areas on the Island where they grow.
They are growing over at least half the cemetery and you can see how they have been cut by a lawn mower maintaining the grass/cactus.
In winter the cactus pads shrivel up and look almost dead. But now the warm weather and socking rains are making them come to life.
Last year I missed the beautiful yellow flowers they produce. Hope to get some pictures this Spring.
Someone must have planted a Prickly Pear here years ago which really multiplied.
