Fish farming - Future sustainable project

in #nature6 years ago (edited)

Recently I was doing some research on sustainable ecological projects, among them I inquired about fish farming.

Fish farming consist in raising and fattening fish in a water pond.

To learn more about fish farming, I decided to go to a well-known inn / restaurant in my city, where they are dedicated to raising fish called "trout".

Anyone who is a tachira must know about the "trout culture of the chorro del indio" because this place is very famous in my city ...

The reason why this site is so well known is because you could go to the pond and "catch" your own fresh trout that would be served in the restaurant of the site ... and it was exquisite!

The fish are raised in 2x2 meter ponds, with spring water that comes directly from the mountain, rich in oxygen and minerals, ideal for fish!

For the fish farming several things are needed:

  • A pond with a continuous flow of water rich in oxygen

The spring or river water is perfect for this as they come with natural minerals.

  • Fishes that are from the area

All fish species have different characteristics that could make them unfavorable for pond breeding.

  • Food for fishes

Preferably these that are mejorated so that the fish have a higher fattening.

Current situation of the place

This inn called "Truchas el indio" was a tourist attraction of San Cristobal, many people used to come here on weekends to taste a delicious fresh trout in the middle of a natural mountainous environment.

But with the inflationary crisis in which Venezuela lives, most people no longer have the money to indulge in this type of "luxury" or tourism, since with what they earn from monthly salary, they barely manage to eat in the month.

With few or no customers, the inn found it impossible to continue raising many fish and today they only have 10 fishes in the pond ... even though they have an infrastructure for approximately 700 fish ...

Now the site remains open working only as an inn, you can rent a room to spend a weekend or rent the entire site for events and meetings.

Fish farming - Future sustainable project

The idea of coming to this site was to see and learn how to raise fish in a sustainable way, to be applied in communities that have optimal conditions for their development, for example: communities with spring water or rivers nearby .

With a source of clean water and space for a pond, the raising of fish can become a source of family consumption and at the same time of economic income.

In a next post I will talk about the viable opportunities that arise in a community like mine and nearby areas for the realization of a project like this.

I was at a trout fish farm once. There were a couple " ponds " kids weren't allowed to fish in due to the fish in them being so big and the fear of being drug in.

these gotta be a really really big fishes hahaha

Thank you for being here for me, so I can be here for you.
Enjoy your day and stay creative!
Botty loves you. <3

It's interesting, What do the fishes eat? do they eat artificial fish food?

In comparison, People in my country are using artificial food to feed the fishes so they get fat quicker than it supposed to.

Yes, they eat artificial food so the fish can get fat quicker !!

ah, so it's the same! Do you plan to have your own fish pond?

Yes that i will have a fish pond too

Fish farming is really a well project...
It is also my hobby to make a fish farm..

I can't believe I've never been there! So close, yet so unknown to me. I think it could work pretty well taking what you say, but as in any project, you need v responsible people in charge so it stays in march. It's awesome how this kind of practice flourish from little ponds like these, to massive ones out in the sea, its all about projection!

Fish farming is definitely something we need to look at if we take into consideration how we are currently plundering our oceans at a rate that fish cannot breed to keep up with demand.

Overpopulation is going to continue a real problem for the planet and we need alternative food sources to help support the current ecosystem

you couldn't say it better my friend!

When there is green vegetation on the fish water, does it mean that the fishes are in good conditions

Excellent post .. The trout is extremely delicious hahaha and how beautiful everything you count, ideal for a family outing.

With a food crisis in your country I would think they would still be trying to raise all the fish they can. Are they having trouble with people stealing fish? Are they having trouble getting fish food? Or of the cost of the fish -being as trout is slow growing just to high to buy?
