The smaller the size of a spider, the larger the brain is in relation to it, because of which almost all of its body is filled with the brain, and the internal organs have to occupy free cavities. The large size of the brain is the only reliable explanation for how even the tiniest member of the arachnoid family, the size of a needle eye, can remember the technique and pattern of the interwoven cobweb. And in this ability, the tiny spiders are not inferior to their larger brethren. How did you find out?
Smithsonian scientists analyzed about a dozen species of spiders from different families that are cobwebbing the web. And in the course of the research it turned out that the small spiders have a huge brain. Some species had such an overgrown central nervous system that it captured not only the body, but also the voids in the limbs. In this case, young individuals often have bulges on the body, filled with the brain, which no longer has room. With the growth of the spider, the place becomes larger, and the protuberances disappear. Spiders that do not weave cobwebs are also smart. Given the size and location of the spider's brain, it's easy to assume that its intelligence is accompanied by damage to other body organs.
Looking at the structure of arachnids, it is obvious that they had to sacrifice much to the brain. For example, in every adult specimen of a family of jumping Argentine spiders, the entire digestive tract was displaced from the trunk to the head. At the same time in babies-spiders this same territory is captured by the brain, because of what the digestive organs are practically not developed. The effect of this phenomenon on the health of young individuals has not yet been established. It was suggested that the big brain was the result of the need to weave the web. This is the hallmark of a more complex behavior than, for example, a larvae bug that feeds on rot and mold on which it lives. But it turned out that those spiders that lost the ability to worm the web and just parasitize by stealing food from their brethren, the size of the brain is not less. Apparently, the ability to be savvy, cautious and unobtrusive requires an uncommon mind, which can explain the comparable size of the brain for the stealing spiders and their relatives, the weaving network.
