National Park Thingvellir was founded in 1928. In 2004 it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
This beautiful park is the pearl of Iceland. It is located 40 kilometers from Reykjavik. It is in this place is the border of two lithospheric plates - North American and Eurasian. The park is surrounded by an active volcanic zone, in which the Hengil volcano, located on the southern shore of Lake Tingvadlavatn
