Protea Flowers in my friend's yard! - My PictureDay Submission

in #nature7 years ago (edited)

Hi guys!

Quickie post - just wanted to share these cool flowers I saw while taking a tour of my friend's property here in San Diego, CA. The Protea is the English word for a type of South African flowering plant. Also known as sugarbushes or Fynbos in Afrikaans, they represent change and hope. All according to wikipedia, anyways. I still can't decide if I love them or if they gross me out too much with their alien like spike-ball tops.

Took these photos with my phone - Pixel whatever. It's white.

What a beautiful flower! Sitting here freezing in Chicago... spring can't come sooner!

Does it ever get warm in Chicago? LOL I think you've got a ways to go, no?

Woah they look pretty and kind of gross at the same time lol

my thoughts exactly - I cant decide. Best not to look too long, I guess. haha.

They are called pincushion proteas. I love them

yay, thank you for IDing them! They are sooo weird to me, I think I like them the best when they're still closed. So intricate in design, the more you look at it.
