Sauk Mountain Hiking Trail Review

This is a really beautiful hike! I'm sharing some pictures of the views and wildflowers. I hiked the Sauk Mountain trail with my friend on Sunday July 31 16, the weather was cloudy and cool about 55 degrees F. We started out wearing light jackets but took them off as we climbed, the wildflowers were blooming everywhere. We saw lots of families with kids, one dog and a couple marmots.

Occasionally the clouds would part and open up to show some really scenic vistas. It was quite serene moving through the intermittent fog. There was not much snow; just one small patch near the top.

It is about a four mile hike, rather steep and could be challenging in places where it has been subject to some erosion, but well worth it. The trail-head is at the end of an eight mile narrow Sauk Mountain road that has some major chuck holes, it starts at highway 20 near Rockport Washington. I think most standard cars could manage it if you take it slow, but I wouldn't try an RV or something like that - parking at the lot is limited and the road is in such poor shape you almost need a four wheel drive with higher clearance.
