Spring for most of humanity, in any case, for the people of Kiev, for sure, is the most favorite season of the year. Everything around seems to come to life after a long winter's hibernation. Beginning in April and ending with May, our city plays with lush colors of flowering trees and bushes - from apricots and cherries to lilacs and chestnuts. But this crown is a beautiful process, you can safely call the blossom of a magnolia, because this tree, due to the beauty and fragrances of its flowers is called the queen of the garden.

Flowering magnolia trees every spring attract thousands of Kievans, who again and again like the first time they want to see, sniff, and of course take pictures of these beautiful flowers.

The genus of these plants received its name in 1703 in honor of the French professor of botany, director of the Royal Botanical Gardens in Montpellier Pierre Maniola - at that time, the plants brought from the Caribbean island of Martinique had no name. In Russian speech, the name "maniolia" was originally used, later it was transformed into the magnolia that we are accustomed to.

In places where the largest collections of magnolias are collected, there are the capital's botanical gardens, in particular the Alexander Fomin Botanical Garden (old bot) by the metro station Universitet and the National Botanical Garden named after Nikolay Grishko in Pechersk.

In Kiev, the magnolias began to be imported and disembarked in 1905. In 1938 a photo of the blooming magnolia was published in the guidebook "Kiev Botanical Garden named after AV Fomin", which in 1930 was brought from Germany by a seedling. Now this magnolia is more than 80 years old, and it grows with a large bush height of 4.5 meters, with a crown diameter of 4.5 meters. This is one of the first magnolias in Kiev. It is defined as a monument of nature protection of local significance. In 1948 a magnolia with purple-pink flowers was brought from Berlin. In the following years the seedlings were imported from the Lviv and Uzhgorod universities. So, brought in 1957, a tree, today reached a height of 9.5 meters with a diameter of the crown - 11.

In 1976, in the same botanical garden of Fomin, the "Garden of Magnolias" was laid on the territory of about 2 hectares with a good relief. Here, more than 150 copies of deciduous magnolias grow, blossom and bear fruit. By the way, in this botanical garden is collected the largest in Ukraine collection of deciduous magnolia, numbering 65 species, hybrids and forms.

A plentiful quantity of blooming magnolia in Kiev can also admire the botanical garden of Grishko, in which in 1966 the Magnolia Garden was laid. Now there are 10 species of this tree-like plant growing here.
In addition, in a small number of magnolia can be seen in many parts of the capital, for example, in the botanical garden of the Agrarian University in Goloseevo, the parks of Taras Shevchenko, Maria Zankovetska, Heydar Aliyev, Victory, Syretsky dendrological park, Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, near Demiivsky Church , on the Landscape avenue, on Obolonskaya embankment near the golf club, near the Saturn plant on Borshchagovka.

In 2013, Kievzelenstroy announced plans to plant a magnolia alley in the city, but with the change of leadership, this idea was not implemented.

Whatever it was, the flowers on the Kiev magnolias usually appear in the first days of April, and the bloom itself lasts several weeks. So do not miss this real miracle of nature!
And we also have such beauty in Zaporozhye!
