Amazing places on the Earth #11
Roraima Mount, Guyana | Brazil | Venezuela
This massive plateau extends along the border between Venezuela, Brazil and Guyana. This impressive plateau is surrounded on all sides by rocks up to 400 meters, creating an isolated and unique ecosystem.
At the top there are stunning rock formations that have been carved by wind and water, and are blankets with large crystal formations. Stunning views open up from Gran Sabana of Venezuela, also known as the savannah of Guinea, when the clouds above it splinter.
At the moment, visitors can only come here from Venezuela, and Paratepui is the easiest route for unprofessional climbers.
The Eye of Sahara | Mauritania
The Eye of Sahara, also known as the Richat Structure, is a mysterious and unreal landscape in the Sahara desert. Located in Mauritania, the Sahara Eye is a large circular formation, originally considered to be a crater.
The most recent and accepted theories suggest that it is actually a product of erosion. With a diameter of nearly 40 km, it can be seen from outer space and looks like a giant bull's eye.
Angel Cascade
The highest cascade in the world is the Angel Falls. The waterfall is 979 meters high and is located in the tropical forests of Venezuela. It falls from the edge of Mount Auyantepui from the Canaima National Peace.
The cascade is believed to have been discovered by an American aviator Jimmie Angel who flew over it on 16th November 1933, looking for deposits, after which it was named. Later in 1937, Jammie returned to the cascade and tried to land on the top of the waterfall, but his plane was damaged on landing, so his wife and two passengers took 11 days to get turn back home again.
This cascade in December 2009 was renamed by Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, as Kerepakupai Vená, which is supposed to be the original name given by natives Pemon, which is translated waterfall of the most worthy place. But, in most countries, the cascade has retained the name Angel.
