Rover Pipeline Spills 150,000 Gallons of Drilling Fluid Into Ohio Wetlands

in #nature7 years ago (edited)

The $4.2 billion Rover Pipeline owned by Energy Transfer Partners' recently spilled 150,000 gallons of drilling fluid into the wetlands near Tuscarawas River in Stark County, Ohio. This incident follows a simialar spill in the same place in April where 2 million gallons of the toxic fluid was released.

The Ohio EPA said it "intends to closely monitor this situation if loss of returns continues" and pledged to work directly with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on "the next course of action," according to eco watch.

The image below displays a map of oil pipeline spills from 2010 to present, and it is discouraging to say the least.

Clearly, the main selling point put forward by proponents of pipelines, and those who stand to reap billions from their construction, is a lie. Put in terms of the amount of crude oil spilled, pipelines are more dangerous than rail cars or trucks. But this is not an appeal to continue relying on railroads and highways for transporting oil. The shocking data on oil spills, the threat to human health and the environment, and the assaults on the rights of landowners and Native Americans brought about by pipeline construction point to one conclusion.

Now, more than ever, we need to speed our transition away from fossil fuels and fully embrace renewable energy. The technology is there, and the free market is making great strides to make this happen. But the corporatocracy still has an enormous grip in perpetuating the oil era, as we can plainly see in the construction of DAPL and the increased oil production through fracking.

The corrupt partnership of corporate behemoths and government players is keeping us mired in the era of oil, putting human and environmental health in ever greater risk with more and more pipeline construction.

I think it is cheaper to let them spill then do a damage control campaign on the sheeples.. That needs to change fast..

wow ,this story is very nice. You have include many information .I read it carefully and utilized.
Thank you so much

Amazing one, i loved it, upvoted!

I like how you presented a problem and then a solution!

They are clearly attacking peoples rights to renewable energy, you see that in so many city's and states. The best thing to do is reduce your usage as much as possible and then switch to renewable's. We must fight the good fight by collecting and storing our own power. This is getting cheaper and easier by the day.

The less we rely on oil the less money they will have to fight against renewable energy. Reduce the amount of plastics you use in your life. Buy hand made goods. It is ridiculous how many products are made with oil.
