Dragons are real.

I love sea creatures, especially seahorses, but did you know about the leafy sea dragon?

I have been diving and snorkelling over 150 times in Australia, Bali, Philippines, Thailand, Hawaii and Honduras, always searching for seahorses and have seen over 20 species of seahorses and pipefish, but never sea dragons.

Other than they are beautiful and amazing, here are some facts about them:

  • Leafy sea dragons are found in western and southern Australia
  • they have leaf-like protrusions all over their bodies to camouflage them in and as seaweed
  • they move from a pectoral fin on its neck and a dorsal fin on its tail
  • they are suppose to give you good luck if you find one
  • like its cousin the seahorse, the male carries the eggs
  • when they mate, they mimic dance like movements with females for several days like dancing!
  • they don't have a lot of sea predators, mostly just humans
  • an camp at Burning Man created a leafy dragon art car! It was awesome.

Where you found it?

I haven't yet. I couldn't find them in Australia, they are so hard to find. Do you dive?

I come from Indonesia..bali is exotice beach but you must try sabang beach in aceh..the beach is so nature and you can find all of kinds of fish and sea animal..

Next time I will, thanks for the tip! Always looking for the best dive spots.

I love diving myself I do lots of spearfishing and freediving I love the underwater world !!!

I don't love the idea of spearfishing but free diving is super cool.

Oh, why is that ?

As long as the fish is eaten and not wasted, that's fine. But I've seen people spearfishing and just aiming at any fish, just to catch them, in my opinion that's not cool.
