Ant Queens Caring For Brood
I try not to interfere too much during this stage.
The Queens are very much on edge, making sure their brood are safe and isolated.
Claustral species, such as these, would normally isolate them in their chamber.
Notice the level of care? How their antenna, and feet, carefully monitor the batch, attending to the unborn's needs as it develops.
A colony acts as one, with each member playing their role for the benefit of the whole.
You may think that the ants are in service of the queen. However, the queen also plays her role in laying eggs. She cannot choose to not lay. She is also a servant to the colony, albeit, the most important one. Although, in some species, she can be replaced. Whereas, in others, when the queen dies, the colony will eventually end.
