"in the end we will conserve only what we love
we will only love what we understand
we will understand only what we are taught"
Baba Doom, Senegese conservationist

Because , weekend is my rest day I usually go home early after work to do my laundry. So I was shocked to find out that our neighbors are hunting this poor creatures for food.

I know in my country it's common to eat frogs, dogs ,snakes, gizzard and bats just to get by. With too many people living below the poverty line who am I too say this is unethical?

This leaves me thinking all day long -how do we teach children especially in the third world countries the concept of conservation if their existence depends on these creatures be it in forms of trade where they sell these poor creatures or eat them?

As an educator I had strongly discussed the possibility of extinction to my highschool biology students. I had emphasized their roles in the ecosystem and how their absence in the ecological chain would affect us humans. In theory I would win the argument. But like most conservation issues it's not a simple black and white matter.

Many conservation attempts particularly on the marine conservation side had been successful because we had manage to convert poachers to stewards by alleviating their economic issues.

Nowadays ,people in Oslob, Cebu are too happy to have their whales alive and happy than dead because of the influx of tourist who wants to have a close encounter with the gentle creatures. This might be frown upon by many ecologist but if it teaches these tourist a thing or two about conservation then maybe it's not bad considering these whales are not in aquariums.

I am sad to note there isn't a legislative law to ban my neighbors from hunting this birds as they're not on the endangered list yet. I have heard from neighbors some of this birds are even just shot for target shooting and not for food. My heart just bleeds as I enjoy the song they make to cheer my mornings. Yet without laws to protect them who am I to call the attention of my neighbors when their belly are gnawing. Somehow, as an educator I fell Ihad shortchanged my students on my silence for this issue.

Fellow Steemians how do you teach conservation as a concept to the young and neighbors without getting into a squabble?I like to hear your stories and suggestions. Any suggestions @steemiteducation?

Happy Sunday everyone, thanking the Lord I don't have to prey on these poor creatures for food. Sending a prayer that time will come others don't have too as well. Praying that they enjoy the birds chirping, excited seeing their young break out from those eggs and seeing the bigger picture how these birds eat off insects that harm their plant someday so they won't harm them no more out of boredom or gnawing stomach even

Till next post,
Ayn

I think it is important that we live positively and share our views on conservation by example. I love wildlife and share that with any young people I'm with - it rubs off very quickly. It is difficult though when people don't have enough to meet their own needs for survival - then it is a lot to ask people to make sacrifices for conservation. I tend to be optimistic though and feel there is always a way, a compromise or solution that can be found to suit wildlife and people with a bit of creative thinking.
Education is key too as people generally want to do the right thing but often just don't realise the negative effect their actions might be having. I find this particularly in the UK where a lot of our products come from abroad so that we don't see the effect our purchases may be having on people and environment far away. But when people find out they will make positive change if they can. the internet is very helpful for this as the effects of our actions can be more quickly seen.

Very good point there @monkeygentle. @mineopoly I would agree we need to teach them while they are young.
@monkeygentle conservation issues are rea"y harder on third world countries like ours than First World counties like UK good point there

@monkeygentle you have a making of a Sage

We often consume more than we should have. I wish to see the world becoming a better place where nature cohabits with mankind with mankind not destroying it for the future generations to see.

@alfredotingco indeed it's better that way we can learn much from all creatures. Thanks @jhezontheroad coming from you I am humbled
