Pompeian worms are the most extreme. So in science they call living beings that are able to survive in the most extreme conditions. Pompeian worms, for example, feel very comfortable near the "chimneys" of black smokers, in the geologically active zones of the Pacific Ocean.
Here the temperature of the surrounding water rises to 100 degrees Celsius, and inside the hollow white tubes that build the Pompeian worms as a dwelling, it does not exceed the room temperature of 20-22 degrees.

Scientists who questioned such unusual abilities of Pompeian worms found that the temperature difference at the entrance to the tube and inside it is more than 60 degrees. And it's only at a distance of six to eight centimeters - that's the length of the body of this fan of extreme.
The researchers suggested that for life in such incredible conditions, the Pompeian worm should have a serious defense. However, no heat-resistant shells on his body were found.

The only "film" covering the body of the Pompeian worm was filamentous bacteria, with which the worms live in symbiosis. The worm feeds bacteria with mucus, provides fresh water to their surface, and absorbs what, in turn, secrete bacteria. These secretions are the main food of the Pompeian worms and the only protective shell.

Even more surprising is that both partners safely exist not only in an environment with high temperatures, but also with a high concentration of heavy metals and hydrogen sulfide.
