The Wild Bluebell 🐝

These sweetly scented, bell shaped flowers are beautiful to behold on a woodland walk.

Half of the world's population of the wild bluebell grows in the U.K. They can be found in woodland, in fields and along hedgerows from April to late May.

Bees, hoverflies and other insects feed on the nectar. In the old days, bluebell sap was used to bind pages into the spines of books. All parts of the plant are poisonous.

Did you know that whilst the bluebell is common in the U.K., it is threatened by habitat destruction, collection from the wild (which is illegal if for sale) and by cross breeding with the Spanish bluebell?

I've always wanted to see a field of bluebells in person. They look beautiful and almost magical, like something out of a fairytale!

Yes, they are beautiful. Thanks for stopping by 🙂
