Meet the Pompeblêden!

Waterlilies in Friesland

At this time of year Pompeblêden are everywhere in all the ponds, moats and waterways. I have taken a number of photographs for you to see and if you're really keen, there's a link to a previous post about these waterlilies.

Let's take ride over to that cluster of Pompeblêden in the middle of this lake.

I believe this could be a natural formation and doesn't it look impressive.

Leeuwarden is the capital of Friesland and has been awarded the Cultural City of Europe in 2018. They use the Pompeblêden on their flag as shown in the picture below. It's often mistaken for a heart, which isn't a bad thing, but it's a waterlily.
