These birds, unlike other species of parrots and macaws, if they build nests, usually in the form of a very large dome where there is an entrance in the form of a tube, for their manufacture they use a meticulous selection of different barks, stems, and branches adjusted to the size and mobility capacity of each bird, all these parts are taken one by one until the communal construction is finished.

The countries where you can find these beautiful birds are Zimbabwe and Zambia being the latter with the largest reserve of this specimen, unlike other similar species the female can lay up to 8 eggs per breeding season. Its territorial extension can reach more than 129,000 km2

Their diet is based on weed and grass seeds, sorghum, millet, as well as seed intake from a considerable variety of flowers, other times they eat leaf buds and some fruits.

So they need plenty of water because of the huge amount of seeds they eat every day.

Most of these birds are in captivity, so they are on the IUCN Red List as a species about to become threatened with extinction. Much of the problem is due to human interaction in their habitat as well as hunting specimens for sale as pets on the black market, as there are laws prohibiting their sale and possession.

They are currently being researched by Research Project which is part of the Research Centre for Parrot Conservation" of the University of KwaZulu-Nata which not only study the most important aspects of their free life, they have also created special areas where birds can live in peace and reproduce freely.
