The fountain of the Alexander Garden in St. Petersburg is located in the heart of the city. The original idea was to place three fountains here, they were to appear at the junction of the three streets leaving the Admiralty.
The first project was designed by architect IA Merz in 1872, but he was postponed due to the difficulties of water supply and the high cost of work. The project was reworked in 1875 by the head of the technical department of the City Council Benois N.L. Architect A.R. Geschwend presented a new set of design drawings using the development of predecessors, additionally having developed detailed and working drawings. The fountain installation in the Alexander Garden in St. Petersburg began in 1876, commissioned the work of the Petersburg merchant EF Ovchinnikov. The solemn opening took place at a mass gathering of the public on October 13, 1879 - at that time it was the largest water structure in the city.
