Sedimentary rocks form from small pieces of rock, or sediment, together with the remains of animals and plants.
Layers of sediment build up, are buried under other layers, and are squashed and cemented together.

Fossils are the remains of things that lived in earlier times. Fossils are found mainly in sedimentary rocks.
