A common flower with great power

**Nayantara **(নয়নতৰা) is the local name in Assamese (অসমীয়া) the flower Catharanthus roses. In English, it is commonly known as the Madagascar periwinkle, rosy periwinkle or teresa.

It is a plant which has very good use, as ornamental flowering plant or as herbal medicine and also vinblastine and vincristine are chemotherapy agents found in this plant which are biosynthesized by coupling of the alkloids catharanthine and vindoline.

It can be grown throughout the year and requires sun and well drained soil. It grows well on areas where temperatures never fall below 5°C. It is found in variety of colors. According to herbal therapy experts, this plant can be used to treat various ailments like diabetes, insect bites, dehydration, piles etc.
