Fathers Day Hike
Skegemog Pathway
Today hiked the short one mile trail to lookout in early evening. Many showy lady slipper, a few yellow lady slippers but much smaller than those by lake. Extremely sweet wild strawberries were plentiful along the trail. One snake briefly appeared, but slithered into a thick patch of poison ivy. Have walked this trail for 25 years, and have yet to see the fabled massasauga rattle snake. Known to live in this region, but ever elusive.
Spotted three deer. One mystery that remains unsolved numerous holes with turtle egg shells. Did the turtles hatch or were they devoured by predators?
"The Wildlife Area is comprised of approximately 3,300 acres of northern peatland, conifer and hardwood swamp, upland forest, and open grassland and includes over seven miles of shoreline on Skegemog Lake and Torch River. "
So beautiful! I can imagine how sweet the wild strawberries were :) It's refreshing to read your article and feel your connection with the earth. Much respect and love to you & yours @dolation. Namaste.
ps ~ what kind of snake do you think it was that briefly appeared? So cool. I love snakes :)
Thank you for the kind words. Most likely a common garter snake, however moved away faster than could be properly identified. I have been enjoying your posts as well @reiki-trail. Appreciating nature. Cheers!
My pleasure @dolation :) Thank you again and big hugs!!
