Yes, there are so many utilizations of bacteria in science:

• Escherichia coli divide itself very fastly, so we use it, for instance, to produce many compounds by genetic transformation.
• Also Agrobacterium tumefaciens is widely used to transform plant!

But I would talk more of biotechnology than nanotechnology.
