All you need to know about owls
owl is a bird of order Strigiformes, and one of most successful aves(bird) in the world with more than 150species.
most owls are classified as nocturnal and social animal because they can be found almost all part of the world except Antarcticaor and some island or simply as ,they are group of birds which hunt at night..
They feed on small rodents, fish, insects, some species do feed on small mammals..
owl adaptation
They have flat face and the eyes are located at the front and the eyes is very large which enable them to see better at the night, unlike other birds which have their eyes at sides. All birds can turn their necks 135 degrees in either direction making 270 degrees in total, but owls can turn their necks 360 degrees.
Question:
What adaptation makes owls to turn its head as far as 360degrees.
Simple answer :
*science makes us understand that the blood vessels, with contractile reservoirs, and bone adaptation and supporting vascular network makes it possible for owls to turn their head as that far without cutting off blood to the brain. *
owl is the only bird that rotate its head at 360 degrees, they are good at looking things far from their eyes, it have sharp beak and the feet to grap it's prey..they have colourless feathers which acts as camouflage for predators, they are fast at hearing, they capable of hearing a prey under the leaves and plants
no wonder one nursery peom says
"The wise old owl sat in an oak, the more he heard, the less he spoke."
Courtship in owls
courtship behaviours differs from species to species of owls but the common one is "calling" a situation whereby a male will try to attract female to a suitable nest site and also offering of foods then copulation follows after courtship and acceptance of food and they will eat together, just like parrot (click the link below to read about parrot. https://steemit.com/nature/@demophyta/parrot-90f29c70800c) owls stay with one mate and stay together but only for the breeding season..
owl lay a white and rounded eggs between 1-13 eggs, and incubation starts from the first very day it starts egg laying..
Habitat
unlike other birds, owls didn't build nest but they lives in ready made nest or abandoned nest and tree holes
