Fishermen from Taiwan
Five viper-sharks were caught on the Taitung coast of Thailand by fishermen from the Fish Research Institute. While analyzing local fish, they have achieved rare and extraordinary discovery.
Unfortunately, only one was captured alive, but he died a few days later. According to IFL Science, specialists hope to be able to even use the animals to find out more about the extremely poor fish species.
Vipera-shark is rarely observed by humans. The species was discovered in 1986 and was officially recognized four years later. The fish live in the deepest waters of the Pacific, near areas such as Hawaii, Taiwan and Japan. The five specimens were caught at a depth of 350 meters.
Experts say the lives live in 270 to 360-meter deep waters. The five specimens were captured during the night, when most of these animals migrate to the surface to feed. Vipera-shark, though scary, does not measure more than 54 centimeters, while females are slightly larger than males.
