A Lake Near Home, Dry For Almost Seven Years
There is a State Park with a 302-acre lake located 13 miles from my home.
In 2008, the lake was drained in order to construct a new dam, perform maintenance to the boat ramps, repair shoreline, and to improve water quality and fish habitat. The state had budget issues part-way into the project, and the work was put on hold, leaving the lake devoid of water for several years. We visited the lake twice while it was dry and took some photos.
I took the previous photos on a visit in 2010. The lake wasn't full again until 2015.
By that time, many willow saplings had grown in the fertile lake bottom soil. To this day they remain, emerging from the water's surface in some areas. The boat docks at the campground were removed, along with some of the towering shade trees, which really disappoints me. It isn't the same campground I remember from years ago.
Those signs look brilliantly out of place, great pics...
Yes they do! Thanks!
Beautiful pictures! I hope the lake will come back to be vivid again with water in the near future!
Thank you. It has been full of water for the last couple of years now.
That's great!
Thanks!
Did you put those habitat structures on your GPS when it was dry?
You know, that would have been a brilliant idea. But I didn't have a GPS device at the time, and hadn't even thought of it!
Looks like good fishing regardless
Best known for Channel Cat and Crappie.
Great pictures! It must be sad to lose a lake. I hope it returns soon. Upvoted and following. Cheers, Keep Steeming.
It's back to full capacity now. Thanks for your upvote and response!
Great pictures. It would have been fun to camp there while it was drained.
I'm not sure, but I think the campground was kept closed. The park lost a huge amount of revenue during those years.

Thanks!
Wow, that looks so sad and beautiful at the same time. What a difference a couple of years can make!
Yes, it was somewhat sad to see it empty. I grew up going to this lake. I actually recall it being drained one time in the late 80's for some work, but it was filled again soon after.
It look likes wilderness now....
