Brave Old friend.
**What's left of La Ceiba Tree located in Ponce. **
The famous Ceiba tree found in Ponce, Puerto Rico is said was once a predominant place for the indigenous people called the Taino's. It is believed the Taino people many moon's ago lived around this tree and were known to cook right around the tree. The Ceiba tree was considered sacred and to most locals this ancient tree and its' site is still sacred.
It is also said, the indigenous people used many of these trees' trunk to make their canoes. In this particular area, it must've been very convenient since the river is literally right next to the tree.
Today, due to the excessive high heat and lack of natural water coming from the now canalized river, Rio Portugues, the historical tree has been suffering from significant limb loss and much of its' natural beauty. The above picture is what the tree looks like now and what's left of it.
Picture is an original.
I have SEEN that tree! I have been to Puerto Rico many, many times, but, on one of my first trips there, I took a tour to get a better understanding of the island. The root system on that tree and its sheer AGE make it amazing. How sad to see a friend fade away like that.
You made her look regal in your shot of her. :-)

Wow, really?! That's great. Thank you for the compliment on my picture. My Mother actually lives at the other side of that historical tree.

What a grand and interesting tree cool to know some of the history or folklore about it thanks for sharing
Happy you enjoyed. 🙂
Very special tree, I hope it will live long.
I hope so too.
That tree look like very old and down from above part but flowers and small plants around tree are looking good. Heat always destroy thing weather its living or non living thing. That tree look little different then others tree and there is something comes out from inside it look like.
The tree is dying by lack of natural water. It's roots once fed from the nearby river, but now it can't. Oh and yes, the tree is VERY OLD from the time there were tribes and no Spanish conquerors on the island yet.
